In order to illuminate the dominant motivations
for Chinese family visitors and the relationship
between the neighboring dominant
motivations, two statistical manipulations were
conducted. These included calculating the frequency
and percentage of each motivation item
selected by participants and running Nonparametric
Tests (two related samples) to compare
the percentage difference between neighboring
motivation items. In order to identify how visit
motivations change dynamically within different
geographic and institutional contexts, chisquared
tests were computed to compare the
percentage of each motivation item a) between
two cities, Beijing and Vancouver, and b)
between two types of museum contexts, science
museums and aquariums
