Capability, an organisation's managerial capacity to make use of its
competences (or combined resources) is a key aspect of integration of
members of the supply chain, buyer–supplier relationships and the
adaptability required for responsive supply: a combination of capacities
and capabilities which meet customer requirements (Johnsen, Johnsen,
& Arab, 2006). Ford talks of developing the “capability to compete”
(cited in Turnbull, Ford, & Cunningham, 1996: 13) by enhancing skills
relating to the characteristics of the buyer–supplier interaction, rather
than the technical or commercial competencies to merely deliver the
product or service.
