Jaejoong's "DEAR J" is to "Just Another Girl" a lot like how Junsu's "7살" is to "11am" -- it's the same idea, but this particular execution is happier and is its own song. So while the basic structure, including the placement of the explosion at the chorus, gives off "Just Another Girl" vibes all over, I like "DEAR J" in a different way. It's a lot more pop so the hardcore rock is toned down a bit, and there are very pleasantly interesting things going on in "DEAR J"'s arrangement. Like Jaejoong's vocals -- those "vocal curls" (if you can call them that) at the chorus gave me goosebumps and they're an appropriate contrast to all the straight, screaming notes that come before it. One minute he's screaming in high ranges and the next he's doing gymnastics in a comfortable range -- this polarity pushes Jaejoong's vocal technique, in turn showing off Jaejoong's abilities and that legendary flexibility of his. It also makes the melody more dynamic and, well, melodic because it makes use of different ranges and the emphasis is not solely on the high notes. So in a sense, there's a lot more emotion and dynamics to show in "DEAR J," which is not to say that "Just Another Girl" is the inferior song -- because it does what it's supposed to well -- but that "DEAR J" is the apt song for a Jaejoong solo on a JYJ album. It's rock but it's also Jaejoong as a JYJ member, and it fits into the bigger picture of "Just Us.
