It is now commonly believed that electronic devices measure mainly the impedance of the probing electrode (contact impedance with the tissue fluid) rather than the tissue impedance itself. The magnitude of this impedance is greatly influenced by the electrical condition of the root canal. Electroconductive solutions present inside the root canal greatly reduce the impedance.
