Designandreviewmethods:DatabasesincludingOvid-Medline,PubMed,WebofScience, EBSCOhost,theCochraneLibraryandEmbasewereelectronicallysearchedtoidentify randomizedcontrolledtrialspublishedfrominceptionthroughNovember2013involving psychologicalinterventioninSLEpatients.Studiesthatmeasuredphysiologicalfunction, lifevitality,depression,paindegree,diseaseactivity,severityoffatigue,andphysicaland mentalcomponentsummariesasoutcomeswereincluded.Trialsinvolvingpatientswith multiplediseasesorreceivedsimultaneouspsychologicalinterventionsorcombinationsof otherinterventionswereexcluded.Twoindependentinvestigatorsscreenedtheidentified articles,extractedthedata,andassessedthemethodologicalqualityoftheincluded studies.Qualitativedescriptionswereconductedandquantitativeanalysiswasperformed withRevMansoftware(version5.2). Results:Atotalofsixrandomizedcontrolledtrialscomprising394participantswere includedinthestudy.Meta-analysesshowedthatpsychologicalinterventionssignificantly reducedthedegreeofdepression(standardmeandifference¼0.44,95%confidenceinterval[CI]:0.78e0.10;P¼0.01]andimprovedthestatusofthephysicalhealthcomponent summary(meandifference¼8.85,95%CI:3.69e14.00;P¼0.00]inSLEpatients.However, therewasnosignificanteffectofpsychologicalinterventionondiseaseactivity,degreeof pain,fatigueorthementalhealthcomponentsummary. Conclusions:Theresultsshowthatpsychologicalinterventionscaneffectivelyimprovethe health-relatedqualityoflifeinpatientswithSLE.Thefullbenefitandclinicalperformance ofpsychologicalcarerequiresfurtherinvestigationbyaseriesofmulticenter,large-sample sizerandomizedcontrolledtrails.
