The ASEAN Human Rights Declaration
(AHRD) has been adopted on November
18, 2012, along with the Phnom Penh
Statement in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
• It protects many of the universal human
rights: it guarantees freedom and
equality in dignity and rights, forbids
discrimination; supports the preservation
of human life, supports the protection of
one’s honour, family, and property; and
affirms the human right to education,
medical and social care and protection,
and a clean environment.
• It also upholds that development is an
inalienable part of human rights and
encourages the right of peace for
everyone.
