The process among participants with diabetes leading them to become ready to act should be interpreted as a model of care-seeking common to patients with diabetes (Figure). The process is dynamic because the various stages, the categories, in some cases can be difficult to distinguish and the process can go back and forth between stages, depending on howthe symptoms are interpreted and what actions the patient takes.
