The general tendency is for individuals to favor one of these behavioral orientations while placing less emphasis on the other. It would be virtually impossible, in U.S. schools at least, for a leader to totally lack either one of the two behavioral dimensions of leadership. Students of leadership who wish to denigrate this concept of leader behavior: which has fallen into disrepute in academic circles, often achieve their purposes by reporting that they do not find leaders who are always task oriented or always people oriented.
