One specimen did not give a valid amplification (the IC failed) and was excluded from the analysis. 29 true positives and 31 true negatives were detected yielding 100% sensitivity (95% CI: 88–100%) and 100% specificity (95% CI: 89–100%).
The number of copies per reaction which corresponds to 100 μl whole blood was quantified using a standard curve performed on the same PCR plate (Table 2.)
Two of the specimens gave Cqs that were detectable but below the LOQ of 10 copies/100 μl (100 copies/ml) whole blood.
The remainder of the positive sample had quantifiable amounts of target. More than 40% of the specimens had less than 50 copies per reaction or 500 copies/1 ml whole blood.
