In Phase 1, the concepts related to this research were
studied by an ad-hoc literature review in which we
identified DSD challenges, in special in the area of
communication with distributed teams. The main factors we
found influencing communication in DSD teams are as
follows: delay in response, lack of native/business language
skills, lack of face-to-face communication, and reduced
communication frequency. Practices to solved them are: to
encourage frequent communication, to establish an
appropriate communication infrastructure, to promote
socialization between project members, to encourage
effective communication through the adoption of tools and
techniques, to promote frequent visits among distributed
members to support trust building, to encourage the use of
the standard language of the project, to promote informal
communication, to promote cultural awareness, and to
promote the adoption of groupware applications.
