Translation of research to practice is slow, averaging about two decades
to move from research to application (AHRQ, 1999; Eddy, 2005).
Several studies have documented the significant time lapse that occurs
in incorporating evidence-based knowledge into practice, which has occurred
consistently throughout the history of modern medicine (Eddy,
2005). Given a robust study design and valid findings, there remain several
obstacles in promoting the application of research to practice. According
to Mullen (2004), several organizational and environmental

supports need to be in place to buttress the use of evidence based practices.
In addition, sufficient training must be available to adequately
prepare clinicians to engage in the new practices.
