We have considered in this paper the problem of communication
between surgeons and doctors. We have used Six sigma principles
to assess the mean reasons that may lead to undesirable
consequences for patients’ health. Quality tools were extremely
helpful to identify the most representative factors involved in the
delay in communication in post-surgery. Flowcharts were designed
for the whole process involving all players. The timing for the players’
actions which led to figuring out causes for delays in communication
with all the consequences that would be observable on
patient care. The XY-matrix helped in identifying the causes that
are more suitable to be addressed at different stages of the process.
Thus, the challenge was to provide a solution to fix these issues and
guarantee that the patient will receive the required service. A solution
came out for designing the architecture for mobile access to
patient records and clinical information so doctors can manage
patient care and demands on their time. The benefits are enormous
in improving patient care as doctors will no longer have to return
to the wards to check test results or the status of patients. As no
verbal communication is used, and everything will be sent to the
smart phone, the doctors can make faster decisions that help their
patients. As well as, it will improve doctors’ communication, allowing
them to share information and consultation with each other.
A future work will consist of developing the application and provide
a prototype for the surgery department. Indeed, the security and
privacy issues related to patients’ data should be carried out.
