4.1.4. Noise indexing
As described in the methodology section, the noise level was
indexed according the U.S. HUD's classification, and the data analysis
revealed differences in noise pollution at the different sites. Fig
5 presents the distribution of average noise levels at the three
investigation sites at different time periods of the day according to
the U.S. HUD's classification.
In the street canyon, a “clearly unacceptable” noise level existed
during day and evening hours, while during the night-time, a
“clearly unacceptable” noise level existed 67% of the time and a
“normally unacceptable” level existed for 33% of the night hours.
No “clearly acceptable” noise level was recorded in the street
canyon. In the urban square, during the day hours, a “clearly unacceptable”
noise level existed 56% of the time and a “normally
