Within this context, one of the most effective process that
has been commonly used is genetic modification by transformation
techniques. This is particularly true for the soybean,
which is an important crop worldwide, including Brazil, the
second greatest producer of this crop, with an estimated annual
yield of ca. 70 million tonnes [3]. The process that confers
resistance to glyphosate (the number-one selling herbicide
worldwide since the 1980s [4]) is considered the most important
genetic modification of soybeans.
