The assumption of the supremacy of business practices over government means that
a company's CEO-management style should work well in government. But what
does one really mean by a CEO-management style? There is no simple answer as
there are various interpretations of a CEO-management style. In general, a CEOmanagement
style implies a strong CEO who has the freedom to manage and make
the key strategic decisions of his organisation in the same way as a CEO of a
company would have. The strong CEO sits on top of a single hierarchy within his
organisation and tries to use his entrepreneurial skills to manage his corporation.
The opposite of a CEO-management style is a consultative style of management. In
the latter, the CEO has to consult several persons before making an important
decision. The organisation becomes more democratic with other members
participating in the decision-making process.
