Carbohydrate metabolism
involving enzymes a-amylase and b-amylase activity were
extremely decreased (50%) and slightly increased (2%) by the effect
of PMF treatment, respectively. a-Amylase plays an important role
in hydrolyzing the starch into simple sugars, which provide the
energy for the growth of roots and shoots [33]. The activity of a-amylase decreased during growth of seedlings, while b-amylase
activity increased.
