on polyphenol concentrations in plant tissues (Wang & Lin,
2000). This fact was further confirmed by our findings of phenolics
in OLE and OFE.
Table 2 shows that the levels of total flavones (80.3 mg/g)
and total polyphenols (245.2 mg/g) in OLE were both significantly
higher than those found in OFE (total flavones, 31.5 mg/
g; total polyphenols, 172.8 mg/g).The total flavones were found
at lower levels than the total polyphenols in OLE and OFE but
at distinctly higher concentrations than the average total polyphenols
in the extracts (Mylonaki, Kiassos, Makris, & Kefalas,
