In comparison with information collected in 2005 on the quantity
of hazardous waste in the country, the results of this study
showed that about 10% of the total hazardous waste comes from
healthcare facilities (Ahmed, 2006). It was also shown that each
person in the country generated an annual average of 1.45 kg of
hazardous healthcare waste. This average falls within the reported
WHO range (0.5–3.0 kg/person/year) for developing and less developed
countries (WHO, 2006)
