Koh Nang Yuan is a small island situated in the Gulf of Thailand, 15 minutes away by boat from
Koh Tao. This picturesque island is very unique as it is separated by a line of golden sand that spreads from
one end of the island to the other. When the tide is at its highest, it is impossible to walk to the other side as
the sand becomes flooded and your only method of crossing is by swimming.
The water around the island is bright blue and turquoise. It is so clear that when you look down you
can see a kaleidoscope of colorful fish swimming below. There are no roads on Koh Nang Yuan, making
the island peaceful and tranquil for all visitors.
How to Get There
Koh nang yuan - Koh Nang Yuan. Photo by Lino M The easiest way to reach Koh Nang Yuan is
by a long-tail boat from Sairee Beach on Koh Tao. To rent a boat is incredibly cheap at only ฿150 each
way, and if you schedule a time with the driver he will even come to pick you up. You can also reach Koh
Nang Yuan by ferry, but this would only be for visitors that are staying on the island as the ferry doesn't
come back to pick you up until the following day. The ferry is around ฿ 1,000 per person and picks you
up from one of the other neighboring islands like Koh Samui and Koh Phangan or from the coastal towns
of Chumphon or Surat Thani .
What to Expect When You Arrive
When you arrive on Koh Nang Yuan, all visitors must pay a fee of ฿ 100 . There is a restaurant
that sells food throughout the day and a bar where you can buy drinks. Along the stretch of golden sand are
sunbeds that visitors can use, and high up in the hills is a view point where you can take some magnificent
photographs.
The island has three beaches which are all great for snorkeling, so visitors should make sure they
buy or rent a snorkel. They are around ฿ 100 to rent or about ฿ 500 to buy. There are also some incredible
diving tours available on the island or you can book them via a dive shop on Sairee Beach in Koh Tao.
Best Time to Visit
Koh Nang Yuan has a tropical climate so tourists will get some fantastic sunshine throughout
most of the year. The only time that may be best to avoid is during the monsoon season from September to december.
