Chapter 1 – the transformation
It was just another normal day at Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. The sun was out and it shone its warm rays of light upon the school. A light breeze blew through the halls of the school as the students went about their daily business; some going to class, some just leaving class and some just chatting to each other. Hogwart's house cup had been the latest gossip, things were very tight with Slytherin currently in the lead with 210 point but Gryffindor was hard on their heels with only a 20 point difference. Whilst everyone was busy going places there was one person that had stayed inside the dorms.
Harry was sitting on his bed in the dorms practicing a new spell that he had been taught just a few hours ago, mutatio. It was one of the more exotic spells and it was one that he just had to master. Though he wasn't very keen on the spell's name he was very impressed with the results it produced. All he had to do is point his wand at an object, say the spell name and whatever he had in his mind the spell would react to and change the object into whatever he had thought of. At first had started off small, changing feathers into pencils and metals spheres into completely edible apples. After a few successful transformations he moved up to slightly bigger objects. There was a old unused box by his bed and he thought that would make the perfect test. He pointed his wand at the box and chanted the spell. "Mutatio," he said in a confident tone. Suddenly a green light shot from the tip of his wand and onto the box. As the green light surrounded the box it began to change. Moments later the box had completely changed into an owl perch. Harry looked at it with a smile, "That will be perfect for Hedwig; after all he destroyed his last one with all that scratching he did on it. Now let's try something bigger." Harry looked around the dorm trying to find something big enough to satisfy his excitement. Eventually he found an unused wardrobe that had originally belonged to one of the old students which had left. "This will do nicely I think." He readied himself and pointed his wand directly at the wardrobe. However, just as he called out the spell the green light which transformed objects travelled down from the tip of the wand and into Harry's body. Harry looked at his wand in surprise, "What just happened?" But Harry wouldn't have time to answer his own question. His lightning scar burned, causing him to drop his wand and the green light reappeared, covering his body and beginning to change him.
He stared down at his hands which had started to shrink and become more fragile. His short black hair which had barely grown past his ears suddenly grew down to the base of his neck. His overall figure had begun to slim and slender into a more feminine figure. Harry could only stare helplessly as the spell took its irreversible transition. Two small bumps that had developed on his chest pressed against his shirt and they continued to grow until they were a pair of nice AA cup breasts. Harry yelped helplessly as he felt an uncomfortable transformation down below. He groped his groin and screamed when he discovered that it had gone. And what made him scream even more was his voice; it had completely changed from the boyish tone it had been to a very soft girl's voice. Even his face had now changed, from a very mature boy of 15 to a beautiful girl of the same age. The last physical change to occur was his size. Before he had been on eye level with Ron but now he was at least a head shorter than before.
Finally the green light faded and the spell had finished. Where Harry had been standing only moments ago now stood a girl who could only be described as the spitting image of Harry if he was a girl. The clothes that Harry had been wearing now hung loosely on her body. She ran back to her room and screamed. She stood in front of her mirror staring at herself. She ran her now delicate fingers over her new body; over her new breasts and up to her face. No matter what angle she looked in the mirror the same answer came into her head. "I'm a girl! This can't be happening, it can't." She rushed back out to collect her wand that she had dropped just as the transformation had started and began frantically repeating the spell, in hopes that it would reverse its effects and return him to normal. After about a dozen attempts Harry sat collapsed to the floor and began to cry. The realisation of what had just happened had hit and it hit hard. "It's no good, the spell isn't working. I'm going to be a girl forever." Suddenly Harry heard noise coming from the entrance to the dorms. The sound of a door opening could be heard from downstairs and this made Harry's heart stop. "Who could that be? I can't let them see me." She got up and ran back to her bed. Unfortunately Harry made a bit too much noise. The person downstairs looked up and called out.
"Harry, is that you up there?" It was Ron; he had just come back from talking with Fred and George and he needed a well deserved break from all of the days lessons. Harry hid behind a wall so not to be seen but that wouldn't help her. Ron was now making his way up the stairs towards the beds. Harry's heart was beating faster than ever now; she could hear each of Ron's heavy footsteps. Then Ron walked in a straight past her, completely oblivious that she was there but it was when he turned around to go back out that Ron got a real surprise.
Ron stared at the black haired girl that was standing in front of him. He looked at her with a surprised expression. "Who are you and how did you get in here? This is the boys' dorm; Girls aren't supposed to be able to get up here.."
Harry looked at Ron and blushed in embarrassment, "R-Ron, it's me... Harry."
Upon hearing this Ron took a step back but then regained his composure, "You're pulling my leg right? I mean you look similar to him but you're a girl and Harry's a boy."
Harry sighed; she had always known that Ron was a bit slow on details and so knew that his response was a typical Ron one. She pushed back the hair from her forehead and revealed the lightning bolt shaped scar, "Ron it's me, you have to believe me. Something bad has happened to me."
Ron was still not convinced, "You're probably a fan of his, I mean anyone could draw a scar on their head," he laughed stepping forwards, licking his thumb and rubbing it against Harry's scar as if it was only paint. When Ron saw this was not working he took a step and scratched his head, "If you truly are Harry as you claim then prove it by saying something that only Harry himself would know, then maybe I'll believe you."
Harry thought long and hard about her answer but then came up with the perfect answer, "When we were in our first year you, me and Hermione went to the third floor was we thought we were trying to stop Snape from getting the philosopher's stone and to get to it we had to play a huge game of wizard's chess."
"The whole school knows about that so it's only natural that you would know."
"I was the king side bishop, Hermione played as the queen side castle and you were the king side knight."
Upon hearing this Ron stared at Harry with a look of absolute shock, "H-H-Harry? What happened to you?" he exclaimed as he realised who the girl was.
"It's a long story," Harry sighed sitting down on her bed, "I was practicing a new spell and it backfired on me."
"But you're a girl, can you change back?"
"I've tried, I'm officially stuck like this. I was going to see Professor Dumbledore about it but you came in before I had a chance."
"Well maybe Hermione might be able to help, she knows about lots of stuff."
"You're right but could you get her for me? I'll wait in the communal area for you."
"Why do I have to go?"
"Because I don't want Malfoy to see me, especially like this."
"Good point, right then I'll go get her. She should be coming out of Muggle Studies any time now, I might be able to catch her just as she leaves."
Harry nodded and stood up and walked with Ron downstairs and into the communal area. Fortunately a lot of the Gryffindors where still in class so there wasn't anyone to see a girl walking out of the boys dorm. Harry took a seat by the fire that burnt slowly. "Ok sit tight Harry, I'll be back before you know it."
"Please hurry," Harry insisted.
"Right, I'm on it." And with that Ron ran out to find Hermione leaving Harry to her own devices.
About 20 minutes later Ron returned with Hermione. Ron was totally out of breath having run most of the way there and back. Hermione was wearing the standard girls uniform and was carrying a big book under one arm. Hermione looked around but could not see any sign of the Harry she knew. She did see a black haired girl sat wearing oversized clothes. "I don't see him Ron, he's not here. Are you sure he didn't go out somewhere?" Hermione said placing her free hand on her hip.
"Trust me Hermione he is definitely here," Ron said looking around and spotting Harry but the fire, "There he is." Ron walked over to Harry who was sat in silence and sat next to her. "Hey I brought her here." Harry looked up slowly at Hermione who was stood staring at her.
"Harry? What happened to you?" Hermione gasped, recognising Harry immediately.
"It's very complicated. I don't understand it myself, one of my spells back fired."
"A backfiring spell huh? What were you casting?"
"Mutatio."
"Mutatio?! Are you serious?"
"Yes, I know now why the professor said don't use it on people, because..."
"...Because the effects are permanent. There is no counter-spell for Mutatio; but what possessed you to use it on yourself?"
"I didn't do it on purpose, my wand did it on its own accord."
"But that's not possible, unless you snapped it like a certain someone did during our second year," Hermione said glancing over at Ron with a raised eyebrow.
"What are you
