There are two types of questions can be asked closed or open. The closed type of question allows the respondent to answer by choosing between given alternatives.
Besides the ease of use for the respondent, the main advantage of this type of questionnaire that the data can be easily collected and analysed.
However, sometimes more than one option may have to be chosen to provide a correct answer, the respondent may not always find an appropriate choice from the available alternatives, or the respondent might need to be subjective in their reply to certain questions, sometimes shades of opinion are asked for, and, in such cases, respondents may be asked to respond using a rating scale.
