NEW YORK -- Police say a man wearing a surgical mask and surgical gloves repeatedly slashed a 16-year-old New York City girl while she was walking to school Wednesday morning, leaving her bloody and in need of surgery, CBS New York reports.
Police say the man attacked the teen from behind, slashing her multiple times in the face, in her throat, and from her ear to her throat, around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, in Queens.
The victim is an exchange student from China who has been in the U.S. for about eight months, according to the station. Police said the suspect did not say anything during the attack.
The scene of the crime -- which was captured on surveillance video -- was about a block away from the girl's home, police told the station.
