Treatment with water at boil and steaming for 2 h causes weight
loss of 2.6% and 7.2% respectively in raw coconut fibre. Water
treatment at boil leached out part of the water soluble matters.
However, under steaming, water insoluble matter including
pectin, low molecular weight hemi-cellulose fraction apparently
gets leached out contributing to additional weightloss. The flexural
rigidity value of 1273 cN mm2 ofthe raw coconut fibre was lowered
to 1235 cN mm2 and1177 cN mm2 onboiling andsteaming thefibre
for 2 h respectively.
