Recent surveys by the authors
In 2000 and 2001 we conducted a series of surveys to allow us to compare findings with the earlier surveys,
but also to measure specifically
how much scientists are using electronic journals and other electronic sources of articles. We surveyed a sample of:
- scientists and engineers at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (to compare with a 1984 survey of this same government laboratory);
- faculty and research staff at the University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville (all departments except humanities to compare with a survey of this same faculty in 1994);
- medical faculty at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Memphis campuses
These surveys are directly comparable to the results of earlier surveys of these same organizations, but asked questions about the scientists’ relative use of print and electronic sources of journal articles.
