Ok, we have two things to do today. (Well you have two things to do today, I have a billion things to do today because I'm a grown up). Anyway, pages 217 - 218 will help help you jumpstart here. First, outline the section titled Westward Expansion. What I am looking for here is who all was involved (native groups, Americans, etc.), the states that arose, conflicts that were faced, and the end result. When you list the states that arose (don't start whining, its a short list), use your iPad to give me a little known fact of each. Find me something about each state's beginning that your textbook does not give us. Arrange this outline in a way that is easy for you to understand, as if you were going to study it as a discussion question possibility on the test...hint hint.
Second, imagine you are George Washington. You have seen the midst of war. You have witnessed the beginning of a new nation. You have been so loved by so many that you were elected the first President of the United States of America. Now it is time for you to step down. Before you pass the torch, you have been asked to write a heartfelt farewell address to your people. Read the piece of Washington's Farewell Address on page 218 (p. 1068 for the longer version). Write to your people. Explain to them the importance of unity, strength, pride, and compassion. Use creativity, but remain somewhat serious. I want to print these out and hang them on my walls for parent night. Put some thought into it.
