P7-1 was predominately expressed in
both plant and insect hosts and its expression levels remain the highest
throughout infection in rice, suggesting that P7-1 is of crucial importance
in virus–plant and virus–insect interactions. Furthermore, P5-1,
P6 and P9-1, the components of viroplasm, are expressed differentially
in distinct hosts. The P9-1 protein accumulates to a higher level in
SBPH than in plant hosts. The virus may regulate its own gene expression
in order to best fit its replication in different host environments
during evolution.
