Analysis of inhibitors in hydrolysate
Inhibitors, including weak acids, furan derivatives and phenolic compounds, are generated during the acid hydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass.
Fermentation medium with these inhibitors would strongly affect the cell activity and fermentation performance.
The inhibitors in sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate generated from GVL/water solution were analyzed (Table 3).
Results showed that all the evaluated inhibitors were at a low level.
Formic acid, levulinic acid, furfural and HMF only reached 0.07, 0.58, 0.04 and 0.42 g/L, respectively.
The TPC in hydrolysate are potent inhibitors during ABE fermentation.
