This research intends to integrate both objectivity and subjectivity aspects in order to answer two research questions.
1. How do people perceive the aesthetic of their dwelling?
2. What are the components of physical and values to explain their aesthetic?
The relationship between physical appearance of the houses and the residents’ living activities, and feelings is significant for understanding their aesthetic experience of their dwellings. Two main types of data collection were required: primary and secondary
Primary data were collected with method of physical observations and interviews: Physical observation was mainly used to collect data on physical features and architectural details of the houses by using sketching and photographs. Interview was used to gain the data regarding historical developments of the local community and the house and the residents’ ways of life, and feelings toward their living place.
Secondary data were collected from various other relevant sources. This was to support an analysis of the aesthetic experience in the residents’ vernacular houses and communities.
