The car of my dreams
In 1982, my class went on a trip to the science museum and I saw the coolest car ever. It was the DMC-12 sports car, made by the DeLorean car company. I was 10 years old. I’d always been more interested in computer games than cars – but this was like no other car. It looked like it was from the future – especially the doors that opened upwards from the sides like a bird’s wings. My friends weren’t interested in it at all – but for me, it was love at first sight. I spent the next few hours looking at it until it was time to go home.
Three years later, the popular Hollywood film Back to the Future came out. Watching the crazy scientist in the film make his DeLorean into a time machine deepened my interest in the car. At the age of 13, I knew that I had to own one someday. But because the DeLorean Motor Company had gone out of business, the DMC-12 was already an expensive collector’s item.
