These grippers are simple, robust and suitable for outdoor use, for example in transportand logistics industries. There is no theoretical limit to the load capacity because the re-sulting downward force is proportional to the mass of the object. In practice, the loadcapacity is of course limited by the allowable mechanical stresses applied to the materialsused to build the gripper. On release the jaws are usually opened by integrated tensionsprings.A prehension clamp in its simplest form is shown in Figure 3.112.
