Late in 1996 the company decided to turn to outside sources, hiring Andrew Young, the respected civil right reader and former mayor of Atlanta, to conduct an independent evaluation of its Code of Conduct. In January 1997, Knight granted Young's newly-formed Good Works International firm 'blanket authority...to go anywhere, see anything, and talk with anybody in the Nike family about this issue.
