The overall aims of the present study are to: (a) investigate the immediate effect of Facebook usage on women’s state mood, body dissatisfaction, weight and shape discrepancy (i.e., the extent to which participants want to change specific aspects of their weight and shape), and face, hair, and skin-related discrepancy(i.e., the extent to which participants want to change specific aspects of their facial features, hair, or skin); (b) investigate whether this effect differs from the use of an online fashion magazine or an appearance-neutral website; and (c) investigate whether trait appearance comparison tendency moderates these effects.
