Cronobacter sakazakii is a pathogen
mostly associated with powdered
infant formula, causing seizures, brain
abscesses, developmental delay, and
even death in infants with premature
infants and newborns at greatest risk.
It is therefore extremely important
that infant formula be tested prior to
release to the marketplace. It is currently
unknown how many organisms will
cause infection, thus a highly specifc
product testing method is necessary
to determine the presence of
Cronobacter sakazakii.
