The nutrient solution was continuously circulated in the reactor
at 1 L/h by a peristaltic pump. The total inner volume of the reactor
was 2 L, as 1 L of MSM was maintained in it; the remaining 1 L was
air volume. The water depth maintained in the reactor was
3.25 cm. The surface area of each disc, was 60.45 cm2 of which
29.05 cm2 area was wetted. The area near the shaft was devoid
of any growth. The filtered air stream from the air compressor
was split into two parts: minor and major air streams. The major
stream was connected directly to the air-mixing tank while the
minor stream was further divided in five different sub-minor
streams each connected with a gas-bubbler filled with one of the
