Simon Jones from Mail Online has brought some interesting transfer speculation into the Football Transfer Tavern tonight.
Jones tells punters sat around the pool table that Manchester United are increasingly hopeful that they can land Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan during the summer.
It was reported earlier in the tavern that both United and Real Madrid were ready to fight it out for the German international which had raised hopes of seeing the 23-year-old at Old Trafford.
Gundogan’s current deal with Dortmund expires next summer and although the Bundesliga club are keen to sign him on a longer term, he has recently admitted that he will look at all the options available to him.
Peanuts are now being thrown at Jones from a seemingly jealous Liverpool fan and after I remove the cheeky punter from the bar, the journalist continues to explain that the midfielder has sat out the majority of this season with an injured vertebrae. We thought that this could put off any potential suitors but apparently not.
The German international is valued at around £25 million and would be a remarkable addition to David Moyes’ side given his continued excellence for Jurgen Klopp’s team. His team-mate Marco Reus has also been targeted, but he’s not likely to be available until at least 2015.
