In the years 1562-1565 Duke Johann Wilhelm was the so-called Green manor house built by the Renaissance architect Nicol Grohman . This manor house was the Duchess Anna Amalia rebuilt in the years 1761-1766 to the library. Proud expression of grandeur and core of the library was the famous rococo hall . At the suggestion of a breaker Goethe was built in the 1803 to 1805 of the 1453 -built city tower joined the Green chateau , which was rebuilt in the years 1821-1825 to the book stacks of the library and extended with a neo-Gothic porch
