Laos Economic Outlook
June 21, 2016
Economic growth in Laos lost some steam in 2015 in an environment characterized by weak global economic growth and low commodity prices. Strong inflows of foreign investment as well as solid domestic demand are supporting the ongoing robust economic expansion. On the downside, several provinces of Laos are still suffering from the unfavorable consequences that the recent El Niño-induced drought has had for agricultural production. Moreover, Laos’ northern provinces have been hit by locust invasions, which the authorities are trying to control in order to prevent major damage to crops.
