Just as in the case of reliability, the evidence of the M-ABC Test’s validity provided in the manual is limited. As far as the
construct validity is concerned, two studies are reported which demonstrate that the M-ABC total score differentiates
between control groups, children with learning disabilities and prematurely born children. Henderson and Sugden (1992)
also present the findings of a concurrent validity study in which the correlation between the M-ABC total score and the
BOTMP (Bruininks, 1978) composite score was found to be—0.53 for 63 children, ranging in age from 4 to 12 years
(Henderson & Sugden, 1992). The rest of the studies cited in the manual addressing validity concern the TOMI (Stott et al.,
1968) rather than the M-ABC. However given the differences between the two aforementioned tests, the research findings
that concern the TOMI cannot provide evidence of the M-ABC validity.
