She said that a team of Australian footballers had also arrived on Koh Phangan without prior reservations. The team was later identified as the West Coburg Football Club, from Victoria.
"The situation is unexpected. I believe 15,000-20,000 tourists are here for the full moon party. Most of them will stay about five nights before travelling on to other destinations.
"Revenue is estimated at nearly 100 million baht. Operators are relieved of the stress relating to the Koh Tao murders and this indicates there is not an impact on tourism," Mrs Wannee said.
The full moon last night was predicted to be a rare "red moon".
