Both the trap and the gillnet successfully caught sea trout, but there were a number of differences between the two net types. The average number of sea trout caught per deployment was 5.5 (±1.2 SE) for the trap, versus 2.7 (±0.9 SE) for the gillnets. The maximum number of sea trout caught with the trap and gillnet (at any one deployment) was 26 and 9, respectively. Both nets caught sea trout of similar size range. Sea trout caught with the trap ranged from 11.7 to 50 cm and 16 to 1590 g, while fish from the gillnet were between11.5 and 47.5 cm in length and 13.3 to 1115.3 g in weight.
The same portion of the population was captured by both net types (t (35) = −0.061, p > 0.05). The abundance of sea lice on sea trout was significantly higher in the trap (median = 14, mean = 28.4
