Mackerel fish (S. scombrus) caughtbylocal fishermen incoastal
and openseawatersoftheCroatianpartofAdriaticSeewereused.
In thisstudy,110samplesweighingbetween200gand400gwere
analyzed.Fresh fish weredeliveredtolaboratoryoniceunder
proper hygienicconditionsanddividedinfourgroupstobeirra-
diated atdoses:non-irradiatednon-irradiated(control),1kGy,
3 kGyand5kGy.Eachirradiatedgroupconsistedof30andthe
controlgroupconsistedof20 fish. Eachgroupof fish withplastic
pouches waspackedinboxesandirradiatedwith 60Co gammarays
at doserateof2.8Gy/s.Boxeswere filled withregular(water)ice
and dryice(mixed)toextendthecoolingenergyoficewaterand
to preventtemperaturevariationsduringradiationtreatment.
Routinedosimetrywasperformedusingalaninedosimetersin
threeindependentmeasurements.Doserangeswerefrom0.92to
1.08kGy,from2.94to3.09kGyandfrom4.94to5.10kGy.Fol-
lowing irradiation,sampleswerestoredat(471) °C. Initialde-
terminations weremadewithin8hofthepurchase.
