apple (malus domestica) juice is one of the most popular juices all over the world. In Shaanxi province of china, about 9 million tons of apples are harvested every year. A large part of them are processed to juice and exported to the international market, accounted for more than 1/3 of the world crade volume in apple juice concentrate. Due to their favorable geographical environment of production, apples from some specific regions in Shaanxi are recognized as "protected designation of origin" (PDO) products, To confirm the safety and authenticity of the juice, traceability is of great importance. The focus of the traceability is on the possibility to follow (in real time) or reconstruct (off-line) the logistic route of singular or compound products. Thus, for the successful utilization of traceability system in apple juice industry, determination of variety and deogarphical origin of the raw material is required. Various kinds of adulterations can be detetedn more easily if the origin of the juice is ascertained.
