The difference in consumption of anorexigens between
the sexes is probably based on female and male differences
regarding body dissatisfaction32, quantitatively greater in
female33, and the difference in usage purpose between the
sexes, as demonstrated by Barcellos et al.34 In this sense,
Nappo et al.35 concluded that the use of drugs such as amphetamines
in Brazil is particularly prevalent among women,
and its use is strongly related to the culture of thinness
as a symbol of beauty. In addition, the knowledge that 90%
of the individuals who develop serious eating disorders are
adolescents and young women may have relevance to the
explanation of this fact
