If we study nature’s strategy for color production, in a range of species mentioned above, we observe a strange commonality. That is, the colored surface is most often micro or even nano structured and is not a flat or smooth one. It is common, real world knowledge that smooth surfaces shine more than the rough ones. This simple sentence contains the very basic idea of anti-reflection (AR) that in order to reduce reflection or shine one has to impart roughness to the surface. The effect is common but the reason is not.
