1. Take patient to bathroom on regular schedule.
2. Encourage adequate fluid intake (at least 2,000 ml./day).
3. Determine patient’s preference for fluid.
4. Place sign on door indicating “Toilet” or “Bathroom” or with a picture.
5. If patient has urgency, ensure closeness to bathroom.
6. Simplify closures on clothing.
7. Avoid fluids just before bed.
8. Use disposable protective perineal garments (Attends) only as needed.
