The success of capital goods or for higher cost technical equipment represents a different approach, one not easily resolved. In most cases the entrepreneur must build a prototype that can be installed and tested. If the tests take place at the entrepreneur’s plant it is referred to as alpha testing. Should the entrepreneur convince a potential customer to test it, it becomes a beta test site. The attraction of this approach is that the user, who often acquires the machine or equipment at a low price, can be persuaded to give an endorsement to the unit which is of considerable help in marketing it.
