In previous studies very limited reports have been documented for the presence of AFs, OTA or ZEN contamination in chicken meat and eggs.
Markov et al. (2013) from Croatia have documented that mycotoxins were detected in 64% of the 90 samples analyzed and found that OTA was revealed to be the predominant contaminant, while 10% of the samples were contaminated with AFB1 and only 6% with citrinin in meat products.
The maximum OTA concentration was found in the commercial sausage samples 7.83 mg/kg, while that of AFB1 ranged to 3.0 mg/kg.
