[26] studied the association between food patterns and obesity in a population based cross sectional study, with a representative sample of 1.026 women (20–60 years) in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Overall and abdominal obesity were present in 18% and 23.3% women respectively. After controlling for confounding factors, low fruit intake was positively associated with BMI [26].
