Key caregivers have important roles in
facilitating and developing abused or
neglected children’s resiliency. Teachers
and key caregivers should help children
feel emotionally stable and help those
who are maltreated feel safe and secure. If
teachers set rules in a neutral, consistent
and meaningful manner, for example,
abused or maltreated children can learn to
trust that adults can be authoritative without
being hurtful or threatening. Participation in creative work, such as art, music and drama, gives children who have been abused or neglected the freedom and safety to express their feelings in constructive ways.
