One of the first psychology to study styles of parenting was Baum rind (1967,1971) who gathered information on child-rearing by observing parent interact with their preschool children. From her observation, she identified three styles of parenting: authoritarian, authoritative and permissive. Further research on parenting styles was conducted by Maccoby and Martin (1983) who identified two important dimensions on which parents differed: acceptant/responsiveness and demanding/control. A
